Sexual Abuse
Couple
Sexual Abuse is ANY sexual contact that occurs without the consent of both people. It can include kissing, touching, grabbing, and any type of sexual contact without a person's consent, including rape.

Sexual comments, pressuring someone to have sex, and sexual harassment are also part of the cycle of sexual assault.

Sexual abuse is a serious crime. You should know the law because if you're a victim of sexual assault you have legal rights and if you commit sexual assault there are serious legal consequences.

Never pressure someone to have sex before they're ready. Take "no" as no and stop. Don't see "no" as a challenge to try harder. Talk openly with your boyfriend or girlfriend about your limits and keep talking as you get deeper into a relationship. Respect one another's limits. Don't doubt yourself or be afraid to say how you feel. If you're uncomfortable in a situation, say so. Don't be afraid to say no. If someone really likes you, they'll respect what you say. No NEVER means yes. And NO is NEVER wrong, it's your RIGHT! And remember , if you or your partner is under age 16, even consensual sex between you is a crime in New Hampshire. The legal age of consent in New Hampshire is 16.

If you or a friend has been sexually assaulted, help is available anytime, day or night, by calling your local crisis center. If you provide identifying information to an advocate, the person may report the incident(s). You are not required, however, to provide any identifying information. You can call for information anytime, 24/7.

REMEMBER - if you have experienced sexual assault, it's not your fault! No one has a right to have sexual contact of any kind with you without your clear consent. Sexual assault is a crime and the person who commits the assault is the ONLY one responsible for it.
